Sustainable Palm Oil City

We’ve accepted the challenge and want to make Chester the world’s first Sustainable Palm Oil City.

Chez Jules works alongside Chester Zoo, the Orangutan Land Trust and the Sumatran Orangutan Society striving to make Chester the UK's first Sustainable Palm Oil City. We are in constant communication with all of our suppliers to ensure all of our products only use sustainable Palm Oil products. Having led the way, many restaurants and businesses in the city are following in our footsteps and adjusting their supply chains now.
Orangutans are among the many species being pushed to the brink of extinction by oil palm plantations, which are wiping out huge areas of rainforest. There is intense demand for the oil, which features in thousands of household products in the UK from food to cleaning materials and cosmetics. Our partners and fellow conservationists are battling to promote sustainable palm oil production to protect the rainforests and the wide range of species that live there.

Chez Jules is taking part to reduce our consumption of single use plastics. It’s the final straw… well for plastics anyway.

It is estimated that Chester uses up to 300,000 straws a day. You use a straw for about 20 minutes and then it goes straight in the bin. But that little drinking straw will stick around for hundreds of years because most of the plastic we use simply gets dumped into landfill, and plastic doesn’t break down like cardboard or paper. Lots of this plastic finds its way into our natural habitats, especially the seas and oceans where it can cause horrendous harm. Chez Jules is signed up to #strawfreechester and are actively taking part by through the removal of all single-use plastic drinking straws and stirrers in our restaurant.
