About us

One of Chester’s most established independent restaurants serving fantastic French cuisine with a daily changing menu using only the finest, freshest ingredients.

In 1997, Jason Ellison opened the doors of Chez Jules and introduced the authentic taste of French cuisine to the city of Chester. Whilst travelling throughout France, Jason developed his love for the French bistro culture and the model of a hand written daily changing menu which became a first in Chester. Continuing nearly 25 years later, the ethos and passion remains the same, with the emphasis as always on amazing food with exceptional wines, great value and a warmth of hospitality that comes from the heart of all of our staff.

Bienvenue

Our History

Chez Jules has something of a fiery history - since 1911 when the Earl of Chester’s Fire Brigade moved into this building, for what was at the time, Chester’s purpose-built fire station, then to become a law court in 1971 and finally an amazing restaurant from 1997 to date.

Our Values

Chez Jules is passionate about ensuring our guests get the very best authentic French cuisine with fantastic, affordable quality. Attentive, yet relaxed service in a beautiful environment ensure we continue to deliver a seasonal daily changing menu, with sumptuous wines and cocktails all delivered with a smile, warmth and a ‘joie de vivre’

A passion for life, warmth and happiness is a value throughout the core of our team. Exceptional, friendly service with a smile. We absolutely love what we do.

Doing Our Bit

Here at Chez Jules we cannot highlight enough the importance of all doing our bit for the environment. If we all do a bit more together, then hopefully we can take a few more steps to looking after our planet.

Sustainable palm oil city

Chez Jules was the first restaurant in Chester to work alongside Chester Zoo in helping them to fulfil their vision of turning Chester into the World’s first sustainable Palm Oil City.

Chez Jules continues to work alongside Chester Zoo, the Orangutan Land Trust, the Sumatran Orangutan Society and the RSPO to continue to help build on Chester’s success as other cities look to now become palm oil sustainable. We are in constant communication with all our suppliers to ensure all our products only use sustainable Palm Oil. Having led the way, many restaurants and businesses in the city are following in our footsteps and adjusting their supply chains to great effect.

Straw free chester

It is estimated that Chester uses up to 300,000 straws a day. You use a straw for about 20 minutes and then it goes straight in the bin. But that little drinking straw will stick around for hundreds of years because most of the plastic we use simply gets dumped into landfill, and plastic doesn’t break down like cardboard or paper. Lots of this plastic finds its way into our natural habitats, especially the seas and oceans where it can cause horrendous harm.

Chez Jules is signed up to #strawfreechester and are actively taking part by through the removal of all single-use plastic drinking straws and stirrers in our restaurant.
